Advocate Good Shepherd auxiliary offers scholarships

Students who reside in the Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital service area who will be attending or currently is attending a college or university pursuing a degree in a health related field are invited to apply for an Auxiliary of Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital scholarship.

The Auxiliary has awarded scholarships since 1979; as of 2014, $599,185 has been awarded to 573 local students. The auxiliary budget designates scholarship monies from its fundraising projects of Art in the Barn, Catchpenny Resale Shop and Pear Tree Gift Shop. The Good Shepherd Hospital service area includes the following municipalities: Algonquin, Barrington, Bull Valley, Carpentersville, Cary, Crystal Lake, Deer Park, Fox River Grove, Fox River Valley Gardens, Hainesville, Hawthorn Woods, Hoffman Estates, Holiday Hills, Inverness, Island Lake, Johnsburg, Kildeer, Lake Barrington, Lake in the Hills, Lake Zurich, Lakemoor, Lakewood, Lake Barrington, Long Grove, McCullom Lake, McHenry, Mundelein, North Barrington, Oakwood Hills, Palatine, Port Barrington, Round Lake, Round Lake Beach, Round Lake Heights, Round Lake Park, South Barrington, Tower Lakes, Trout Valley, Volo, Wauconda, and Woodstock.

The number of scholarships awarded is based on the numbers and qualifications of applicants. Current references, transcripts, and proof of acceptance from the institution and acceptance into a health care professional program are required. Applicants are evaluated on the basis of attitude and desire toward education, leadership, citizenship, personality and financial need.

Applications are available on line at www.advocatehealth.com/gshp/scholarships. Applications must be postmarked or hand-delivered and filed with the Auxiliary Scholarship Committee no later than April 30, 2014. Finalists will be interviewed at Good Shepherd Hospital, and recipients will be notified in early June.
