Snowy fun at Glenn Ellyn Artic Blast
The Glen Ellyn Park District hosted its second annual Arctic Blast on Sunday, giving residents a chance to enjoy some late-winter outdoor fun.
Three-year-old Quinn McCauley took advantage, trying his hand at the Snowball Toss game.
"We figured today was a good day to actually have fun in the snow before it all melts away," said Quinn's mother, Heather Liay McCauley.
"Plus, we want him to sleep later on," his father, Pat, added.
The Snowball Toss was just one of the activities offered at the Arctic Blast event. Some attendees tried their hand at the Frozen Disc Fly. Others built snowmen or played a round of Chilly Paddle Tennis. There were roasted marshmallows and hot chocolate on hand, too, to keep people's spirits warm.
For perhaps the first time all winter, the weather cooperated nicely on Sunday. Temperatures were moderate, and there was plenty of sun. Most importantly, Maryknoll Park was covered with snow.
"We had almost no snow last year - it was a big mud fest," said Mary Defiglia, the park district's assistant superintendent of recreation.
Defiglia said she hopes the event catches on as more residents learn about it.
"If you've got the right weather, it's a great late-winter afternoon for the family," she said.
