Westminster wins regional opener

Sophomore Maddie Versluys had 16 points and 10 rebounds, while senior Liz Meschewski scored 14 points and had 5 steals as the Westminster Christian girls basketball team won its postseason opener 86-23 Tuesday night over Chicago Douglass at the Class 2A IC Catholic regional.

Claire Speweik added 11 points and 9 rebounds for the Warriors (21-4), while McKaila Hays and Emma Anderson had 10 points each. Libbie Atchison also contributed 9 points and 7 rebounds.

No. 2 seed Westminster will take on top-seeded IC Catholic Friday at 7 p.m. in Elmhurst for the regional title and a spot in next week's Chicago Marine Military Academy sectional.

Burlington Central 76, Harvard 25: The Rockets closed out their second straight undefeated Big Northern East season behind 19 points from Shelby Holt (5 3-pointers) and 16 from Sam Pryor. Becca Gerke added 10 points for Central (21-4, 12-0).
