Girls basketball: Week 10 MVP
Burlington Central sophomore forward Samantha Pryor has earned Daily Herald MVP honors for her recent girls basketball performances.
Samantha Pryor, Burlington Central: In helping her team inch closer to its second straight Big Northern East championship, this sophomore forward scored 54 points in 3 wins last week. She had 15 points in a 63-29 win over Genoa-Kingston, 12 points in a 63-19 victory over Marengo, then 27 points including 5 3-pointers in a 91-39 win over North Boone. In those 3 games she also shot 13-for-21 from 2-point range, 7 of 16 from 3-point range and had 21 rebounds.
Tomei Ball, Glenbard South: The 5-foot-10 senior forward helped the Raiders clinch the Metro Suburban Conference championship, scoring 23 points with 10 rebounds and 4 steals in a win over Riverside-Brookfield, then adding 25 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals in a victory against Elmwood Park. Ball made 10 of 15 shots against Elmwood Park and was 2 of 2 at the free-throw line.
Alexis Duehr, Antioch: Nothing runs like a Duehr. The 5-foot-6 sophomore's speed was on display in back-to-back wins. She had 15 points, 12 rebounds and 3 steals in a 63-38 win over Lakes that gave Antioch a share of the NSC Prairie title. She then had 11 points and 6 boards in a 65-39 victory over Lake Forest.
Janie McCloughan, Geneva: The 5-foot-10 junior forward helped Geneva win its sixth straight conference championship with 20 first-half points in a 58-35 win at St. Charles North. McCloughan sat most of the second half, finishing with 24 points on 12-of-17 shooting with 10 rebounds. She also had a double-double in a win over Larkin with 16 points and 14 rebounds while adding 2 steals and 2 blocked shots.
Brittany Reinhart, Schaumburg: Reinhart proved to be the heart of the Saxons' offense as the junior guard was all over the floor when Schaumburg picked up its third win in the MSL West, a 52-37 decision over Hoffman Estates. In addition to scoring a game-high 18 points, Reinhart also collected 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals in her solid all-around effort.
