Student assembles emergency packs for Eagle project
Submitted by Hawthorn School District 73
Former Hawthorn Middle School South student Jordan Calabrese helped assemble 250 emergency backpacks, one for each Hawthorn teacher. As part of Jordan's Eagle Scout project, the 16-year-old Vernon Hills High School student organized the project with 60 volunteers.
The students worked to assemble emergency kits complete with water, blankets, rain ponchos, clipboards and paper/pens, hand sanitizer, flashlights, first aid kits and a variety of other essentials.
"The packs can help with lots of emergencies," Jordan said. "If there were a fire in winter, students would have the blankets. If schools lost power, students would have access to water and glow sticks."
