Sponsors sought for East Aurora High School's food-packing event
Feed My Starving Children, a nonprofit organization that supplies food to hungry children, will hold a one-day mobile food pack at East Aurora High School Saturday, May 21. The district is looking for donors to help sponsor the cost of bringing in the food and setting up the event. To donate, go to www.gofundme.com/FMSCEAHS.
At this time, East Aurora School District 131 has raised funds for a partial pack. However, there is an opportunity to do a full pack, creating more than 100,000 meals. The district's goal is to raise $9,000, with matching dollars provided by the Dunham Fund.
A mobile pack involves community members taking large quantities of raw food supplies and repackaging them into boxed meals that are distributed to children in need around the world. The meals contain critical nutrients for child development and help speed the recovery from malnourishment and illness. Food from Feed My Starving Children has been used in orphanages, schools, clinics, and feeding programs to break the cycle of poverty in more than 70 countries.
The mobile pack is being organized by East Aurora High School math teacher and Community Service Advisor Stacy Conrad.
The ultimate goal of the pack is to provide members of the community a chance to work side by side with East Aurora students to package meals for children. Students can also earn community service hours for participating in the two-hour volunteer shifts, 10 a.m. to noon, 1 to 3 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m.
If you cannot donate, but can volunteer to pack Saturday, May 21, contact Conrad at sconrad@d131.org or (630) 299-8000. About 160 volunteers are needed for each shift. The district will send out more information about online registration once the volunteer webpage is open.
