ESO's first concert of the year highlights Andrew Grams
Andrew Grams will return in January to conduct the ESO's first concert of the new year, "Passionate Drama," Saturday, Jan. 10, and Sunday, Jan. 11.
This concert, featuring pieces by Barber, Dvorak, and Smetana, will have music of war, tragedy, passion and love. Maestro Grams will be joined onstage by guest violinist Philippe Quint.
An audience favorite and graduate of the Julliard School and the Curtis Institute of Music, Grams is one of America's most promising and talented young conductors and has already appeared with many of the great orchestras of the world. The 2014-15 season is his second as the music director of the ESO.
Award-winning American violinist Philippe Quint is a multifaceted artist whose wide range of interests has led to several Grammy nominations for his albums, performances with major orchestras throughout the world, and a leading role in a major independent film called "Downtown Express."
Patrons can enjoy a drink, time with friends and even shopping in the lobby of the Hemmens Cultural Center. After Saturday night performances, the audience is invited to "Mingle with the Musicians" at the local restaurant, Elgin Public House.
The ESO's "Passionate Drama" will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, and 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at Hemmens Cultural Center, 45 Symphony Way in Elgin.
