Aurora's Harry Potter Festival to have a 'magical' element

The 1857 Tanner House Museum and the Pierce Art and History Center will be open free from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 30, during the Harry Potter Festival in Aurora.

Both museums will feature treasure hunts for innovations that are considered unremarkable or even quaint today but which seemed like magic at the time they were introduced in the 1800s and early 1900s. Correct answers will be entered in a drawing to win an "Andy Aurora" T-shirt featuring the 1964 city brand image.

Participants do not need a ticket to the festival to visit either site, although donations are appreciated.

Visitors who sign up for a yearly membership to the nonprofit Aurora Historical Society will receive a membership extension through the end of 2018.

The Tanner House Museum is on the west side of Aurora at the corner of Oak Avenue and Cedar Street in the historic Tanner District. The Pierce Center is at 20 E. Downer Place.
