Probation for man who barged into St. Charles apartment
A 25-year-old Bellwood man was issued two years of conditional discharge and spent 66 days in jail after being charged with forcing his way into a St. Charles apartment in December armed with a knife, according to Kane County court records.
Marquis K. Walker, of the 500 block of 49th Avenue, pleaded guilty Wednesday to felony trespass in exchange for more severe charges of home invasion and home invasion with a dangerous weapon being dismissed by prosecutors, records show.
The home invasion charges carried a minimum six-year prison term; if Walker violates his probation, he could be resentenced to up to three years in prison.
Judge Clint Hull accepted the guilty plea from Walker, who had been held at the Kane County jail since his arrest. Walker also must pay $985 in court costs and fees, and is barred from having contact with the victim.
According to St. Charles police, Walker pushed his way into an apartment Dec. 2 in the 100 block of South 17th Street and used a knife to threaten a person he knew.
No injuries were reported and he was arrested at a nearby apartment building.
Walker was arrested in 2009 on charges he possessed 2.5 grams or less of marijuana. He pleaded guilty, was fined $785 and ordered to perform 50 hours of community service, records show. He also was arrested in St. Charles in August 2010 and charged with misdemeanor domestic battery. He successfully completed a diversion program and paid a $745 fine, records show.
