Glen Ellyn to consider changes to sign code

Glen Ellyn’s village board will be asked to consider an update to the village sign code at Monday’s board meeting.

The current code was adopted in 1993, with only a handful of amendments since that time, according to village records. Village staff believes many of the regulations are out of date and the format is not user-friendly.

Proposed amendments include reformatting the code to make it more friendly to businesses; allowing two signs on an interior lot and three on a corner lot in all areas of the village; and changing permitted sign sizes.

The proposed list of exempt signs also has been greatly expanded and amendments are proposed concerning window signs, banner signs and message boards.
