Des Plaines officer receives Life Saving Award
Des Plaines city officials recently acknowledged officer Matt Cerasa with a Life Saving Award for his heroic actions on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013.
Officer Cerasa responded to a call of a man down on the Des Plaines River Bridge at Rand Road. Upon arrival, officer Cerasa observed the victim lying on his back, not breathing and unresponsive. Officer Cerasa requested paramedics and began cardio pulmonary resuscitation.
As the paramedics arrived, the victim began to breathe intermittently. Paramedics administered more advanced life-saving measures prior to transporting the victim to Lutheran General Hospital, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.
Officer Cerasa’s quick and decisive life-saving measures helped to save the life of the victim.
