Greenbelt to laud black business owners in Lake County

Join Greenbelt Cultural Center for a tribute to Lake County’s African-American business owners at the 31st annual Profiles in Excellence program celebrating Black History Month. The program honors the history and achievements of Lake County African-Americans.

The program will be from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Feb 2, at the Lake County Forest Preserves’ Greenbelt Cultural Center, 1215 Green Bay Road, North Chicago. The program is free and open to all ages.

The program highlights the contributions African-American businesses have had on bringing jobs and economic vitality to the community. Meet owners of longtime businesses that still thrive in Lake County and hear the stories behind their successes.

Learn about the history of Madam CJ Walker and other early African-American entrepreneurs who began businesses in the post-slave era.

This inspirational program will provide tips about starting a business. Guests will receive a resource guide with information to help new business hopefuls.

Free refreshments will be served. Singers and praise dancers will also perform.
