Barrington church to host Community Conversations program

Submitted by St. Paul UCC

As part of the “Community Conversations” program, St. Paul United Church of Christ, 401 E. Main St. in Barrington, will host the Rev. Chris Glaser for an afternoon of discussion and learning about the works of Henri Nouwen.

“Creating Community: Using Henri Nouwen’s Insights” will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18. It is free and open to the public.

Nouwen was one of the most prophetic theologians of the 20th century. He is credited with more than 50 books on the spiritual life.

Glaser was a student of Nouwen’s at Yale Divinity School in the late 1970s. They became friends, and Glaser considered Nouwen his spiritual mentor. Upon Nouwen’s death in 1996, Glaser began leading workshops and retreats on Nouwen’s life and writings, culminating with his book “Henri’s Mantle: 100 Meditations on Nouwen’s Legacy.”

The Rev. Glaser also will be guest speaker at the Jan. 19 worship. For details, call (847) 381-0460 or visit www.stpauluccbarrington.org.
