Lombard man's wife charged with his murder

The wife of a 53-year-old man found dead Thursday in a home on Hammerschmidt Avenue in Lombard has been charged with his murder.

Anka Miscevic was charged late Friday with killing her husband, Zeljko Miscevic, according to a news release from DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin's office.

It appears at least Anka Miscevic lived in the home where the murder occurred. No other information about the crime was released.

Anka Miscevic is slated for a bond hearing Saturday morning.

Police said they found the man after responding to a disturbance at the house. He was taken to an area hospital, where he later died.

The investigation was conducted by the Lombard Police Department, along with the DuPage County Major Crimes Task Force, the state's attorney's office and the coroner's office.

Lombard Trustee Reid Foltyniewicz wrote on a Facebook post around 3 a.m. Friday that an “isolated domestic incident” occurred about a block away from Hammerschmidt Elementary School.

“There is an offender in custody and there is no danger to the public. The Lombard Police Department is continuing the investigation and will be in the area today,” he wrote.

Lombard Elementary District 44 Superintendent Jim Blanche said police contacted the district Thursday morning to inform officials about their heavy presence a few blocks away from Hammerschmidt Elementary School.

“We sent an alert out to the parents just to indicate what the situation was. We were assured by the police that there was no danger to the public,” Blanche said, adding that the school's principal still decided to cancel outdoor recess Thursday.

Blanche said a boy who attends Westlake Middle School lived in the home where the police activity occurred. He said the student did not attend school Friday and the district is working with his family regarding the situation.

“Lombard police were very involved with the school yesterday regarding this person,” Blanche said. He said the district has counselors, a social worker and a psychologist available to help that student and any others who may hear about what happened and need support.
