Hoffman Estates home catches fire

Hoffman Estates firefighters estimated damage at $50,000 from a fire to a ranch home Friday afternoon.

Firefighters responded to a call on the 1400 block of Westbury Drive at 3:45 p.m. and located the fire in a rear bedroom. They had the blaze extinguished by 4:10 p.m.

The owner was outside by the time firefighters arrived, and no injuries were reported.

The home did not have smoke detectors, firefighters said.
