Fremont students shop for families in need

Submitted by Fremont School District 79

About 125 students shopped at Target comparing prices, colors and quality of clothing and toys as they bought gifts for needy families in Fremont Township, as part of an annual outreach activity.

Multiage classrooms in Fremont Elementary and Intermediate schools were given the information pertaining to about 30 children whose families have fallen on hard times during the holiday season and who are having difficulty buying Christmas gifts for their children.

The first- and second- and third- and fourth-grade classrooms typically shop for dolls, games, Legos, books and clothes. Students must stay within their budget so they learn to comparison shop at the Mundelein Target.

As part of the experience students wrap the gifts, read stories about helping others who may be down on their luck and write about their shopping experience.
