Artists wanted for Elgin Ties Dance Festival in April

The Elgin Ties Dance Festival, founded by Elgin natives Sara Krikau and Erin Rehberg, announces its call for artists for the second annual event in April. Krikau is the artistic director of Veritydance Company and Rehberg is the artistic director of Core Project Chicago.
The 2014 festival will be produced by Side Street Studio Arts in Elgin. It will feature three professional concerts and two family-friendly performances made up of works created for and by kids. The Elgin Ties Dance Festival will be held April 24-27 at the Elgin Art Showcase.
They are seeking: dance works of any genre, including media and performance art, as well as work for family-friendly performances. (Specify if you would like to be considered for the family-friendly performance).

The application deadline is Saturday, Jan. 18. No late submissions will be accepted.
The application fee of $10 can be paid online or mailed with application to the street address above. Only one application fee is necessary per company/artist. You may submit as many works as you like under one $10 fee. Works will not be curated until application fee is paid.

Krikau and Rehberg met through Sylvia Grady, coordinator of the Elgin Arts Showcase in 2012. Both had recently returned to Elgin after years living and touring elsewhere as dancers, educators, arts administrators and choreographers and felt an immediate need to build the professional dance community in Elgin, a city that has exported numerous dance professionals through its studios and schools. Since their first meeting, they have worked together to curate and publicize the Elgin Ties Dance Festival with goals to not only show their personal work to a different hometown audience, but also to bring a variety of dance forms and viewpoints to Elgin audiences.
“The dance scene in Chicago is exciting and thriving, we want the work shown in Elgin to be a direct reflection of that. We want people to witness the great art that is happening everywhere, including just outside their doorstep,” Rehberg said.
Side Street Studio Arts, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, was founded earlier this year by Elgin residents Tanner Melvin and Erin Rehberg. Currently under the direction of Amanda Harris, Melvin, and Rehberg, Side Street has become an outlet for the Elgin arts scene providing accessible space encouraging all aspects of the artistic process from creation to curation.
