Balanced reporting on health care needed
The article in your Dec. 16 edition, “Sticker shock for health insurance buyers,” is an example of the type of reporting that’s only reinforcing confusion and misunderstanding relative to our health care problems in the U.S. In fact, it makes it sound like we can have all the health care we need and want without paying for it.
In my opinion, to be balanced the article should’ve said something about the cost of how much health care costs are going up, pointed out that we can influence these costs by our own lifestyle changes, and asked people to recognize that health care is like any other service they consume — the more they consume, the more it will cost someone.
Without that balance, the article just reinforces the impression that what’s happening today isn’t fair and, in the process, makes it easier to politicize the discussion. We expect and need better coverage on health care from the Daily Herald.
