Dist. 62 winter card win shared by two

Dist. 62 Board of Education President Brenda Murphy awarded first place to Juhi Soni and Emily Kulaga in the 2013 District 62 Winter Card Design Contest. Juhi, an Iroquois Community School fifth-grader, and Emily, a Central Elementary School fourth-grader, share the distinction of winning.

Juhi’s design features two deer in a wintry forest and Emily’s design displays numerous snowflakes. Second place was awarded to Ryan Prichisky. Mohnish Soni placed third. The second- and third-place winners are Iroquois Community School students.

Representatives from the Des Plaines Park District, the Des Plaines Public Library and Nykiel Design judged 59 entries on grade appropriate execution, originality and creativity.

The winning designs were featured on cards that the district sent during the holiday season. All entries will be displayed through Jan. 7, at the Des Plaines Public Library. Each artist received a participation certificate.

Previous winners, Lesley Bux and Haripriya and Bhagirath Mehta, received their artwork from Murphy.
