Participants needed for Waukegan’s ‘Polar Bear Plunge’ on New Year’s Day

Start the new year off by supporting individuals with a disability by registering for the “Polar Bear Plunge” into Lake Michigan on New Year’s morning.

Participants will help raise funds for the Special Recreation Services of Northern Lake County — Waukegan scholarship program. Proceeds from the event are used to help individuals with disabilities participate in camps, athletics, health and fitness programs, and more.

Maximize the impact by asking friends and family to support your plunge with a pledge.

Registration and pledge forms are available online or at these Waukegan Park District facilities: the Field House Sports and Fitness Center; Jack Benny Center; or Belvidere Recreation Center.

The plunge will take place at the Waukegan Swimming Beach from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1.

Event day registration opens at 9 a.m. and costs $15. Register for the plunge to support individuals with a disability and receive a limited edition T-shirt.

Special Recreation Services of Northern Lake County provides individuals with disabilities or special needs the opportunity to be involved in year-round recreation and leisure programs. Programs are available for individuals ages 3 and older who are in special education programs, vocational workshops, or those who need assistance to succeed in recreational activities.
