May Whitney fourth, fifth grade to perform ‘Schoolhouse Rock Live, Jr.’

Fourth and fifth graders from May Whitney Elementary School will perform “Schoolhouse Rock Live, Jr.” Children just discovering the TV series to “Gen X-ERs” seeking a taste of nostalgia will delight in this surefire entertainment that’s simply good, clean — and educational — fun.

Schoolhouse Rock was an Emmy Award winning 1970s Saturday morning cartoon series that taught math, grammar, history, science and politics through clever, tuneful songs. The series is not only making a small-screen comeback, instructing a whole new generation to “Unpack Your Adjectives” and “Do The Circulations,” it’s lighting up the stage in our own community.

Tom, a nerve-wracked schoolteacher anxious about his first day of teaching, tries to relax by watching TV when various characters representing facets of his personality emerge from the set and show him how to win his students over with imagination and music, through such beloved Schoolhouse Rock songs as “Just A Bill,” “Interplanet Janet” and “Conjunction Junction.”

The show will be held at Lake Zurich Middle School North, 95 Hubbard Lane, Hawthorn Woods, at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11 and 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12. Tickets are $5, $3 for children ages 4 and older and free for kids 3 and younger. Tickets are available at the door.
