Grayslake library has new Teen Services librarian
Submitted by Grayslake Area Public Library
The Grayslake Area Public Library is pleased to announce some new goings on.
Lauren Hilty is the new Teen Services librarian. Lauren previously worked at the circulation desk and was well known for her creative “tape” animals.
Lauren is devising some new drop-in and weekend teen programs. To keep in touch and find out what is happening for teens at the library, visit the teen blog, grayslakelibraryteens.wordpress.com; the library’s website, www.grayslake.info; or contact Lauren directly, lhilty@grayslake.info.
Also, iPads have arrived in the Youth Area. Thanks to a generous contribution from the Grayslake Library Foundation, the library was able to purchase four iPads loaded with educational apps recommended by experts and selected by the Youth Services staff.
Why iPads? They provide:
Ÿ a multisensory tool for engaging children in a creative environment;
Ÿ interactive and collaborative play, promoting an enjoyment of learning;
Ÿ touch-screen technology allowing children to hear and manipulate letter sounds for learning and to develop fine motor skills.
Having iPads available at the library loaded with educational apps provides parents the opportunity to help their children navigate through the digital world with positive and developmentally appropriate technology.
