Elgin Fire Department is holding Winter Wear Drive

Submitted by City of Elgin

As part of the Elgin Fire Department’s community outreach program, the staff of Station 5 has offered their assistance to the Elgin Community Crisis Center.

Throughout the year, the station plans to partner with them in a variety of ways. Right now, their focus is on gearing up for cold weather by way of a Winter Wear Drive.

They are collecting new and used adult coats, gloves, mittens, hats, and scarves. They also need new or gently used bath towels. Items will be accepted through Jan. 1.

Donations of the gently used or new items may be dropped off at any Elgin fire station.

Accepted items include coats, including parkas, jackets and car coats for men or women; gloves and mittens, including dark colors and heavy men’s gloves; hats, including dark colors for men; scarves and towels. Larger sizes are needed for both men and women.

Do not donate lightweight or spring items, sweatshirts, sweaters, long trench or dress coats.

The Community Crisis Center is an important organization that provides safe shelter to numerous women and children each year who are homeless due to domestic violence, sexual assault, or financial crisis — often fleeing their homes with only the clothes on their backs.
