Antioch Native Serves to Make College Possible

MILWAUKEE– Antioch native Brittany Hartl has recently begun a year of full-time service with College Possible Milwaukee, a nonprofit dedicated to helping low-income students earn college degrees. As an AmeriCorps VISTA member, Hartl builds organizational capacity through fundraising and community outreach.

A resident of Antioch, Ill., Hartl attended Antioch Community High School and graduated from Marquette University in 2013 with degrees in Communication Studies, Psychology, and Spanish. While at Marquette, Hartl volunteered in the Admissions Office, studied abroad in Spain, and played with the Marquette University Women’s Rugby Football Club. She credits her decision to serve with College Possible to these and other opportunities that she had in college.

“I was drawn to College Possible because of my own college experience; the past four years have been incredible, and I want everyone to be able to have the same opportunities,” Hartl said. “It is really amazing to work alongside so many individuals with the same goal, dedicated to helping low-income students reach their potential.”

Hartl joins the College Possible team with experience already under her belt, having previously held internships at Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity and the Alzheimer’s Association of Southeastern Wisconsin.

“Brittany works hard in supporting the organization by helping to manage communication with current and new supporters. She helps us share our stories with the community,” said Sam Mott, external relations coordinator of College Possible Milwaukee.

After completing her service with College Possible, Hartl is considering attending graduate school for counseling or continuing in the nonprofit sector.
