Arlington Heights police officer remains in hospital

An Arlington Heights police officer who was shot in the face Thursday night while responding to a hostage situation is still recovering in the hospital, according to one of his comrades.

Michael McEvoy, 52, remains in critical, but stable, condition at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, said Sgt. Scott Winkelman of the Arlington Heights Police Department.

Winkelman said no new information on McEvoy’s recovery was available Sunday night. He added, however, that officers have been at the hospital 24 hours a day.

A representative from the hospital could not be reached to provide more details on McEvoy’s condition. Police have said McEvoy is expected to make a full recovery.

McEvoy, a 23-year veteran of the department, was shot by Eric Anderson of Niles, who had been stalking an ex-girlfriend and had taken her hostage, police said. Anderson was shot and killed several hours later by police after he pointed a gun at officers, police said.
