Wolves can’t catch Rampage

SAN ANTONIO — The Chicago Wolves rallied but came up short Saturday night, falling to the San Antonio Rampage 4-3 at the AT&T Center and ending their three-game road swing 1-2-0-0.

Mark Mancari, Brent Regner and Sergey Andronov scored for the Wolves, and goaltender Matt Climie (2-5-0) kicked out 32 shots.

The Wolves (12-12-0-2) jumped out in front when Mancari scored 7:28 into the game. As Dmitrij Jaskin carried the puck behind the net, he backhanded a pass to Mancari. His original shot was stopped, but he converted the rebound.

Minutes later, the Rampage (11-14-0-2) tied the score at 1-1. Jed Ortmeyer picked up the puck just inside the blue line and fired a shot that hit Climie’s arm and crossed the goal line.

The Rampage took the lead at 15:16 on a power-play goal from Garrett Wilson. Greg Rallo accepted a point pass at the doorstep, drawing Climie to the side of the net, and then sent a cross-crease pass to Wilson — who tapped it in.

With the Wolves on their first power play, the Rampage’s Quinton Howden picked off an errant pass and beat Climie at 16:38 of the opening period.

Regner cut San Antonio’s lead to 1 with a goal at 10:46 in the third period. Regner pinched from the point, deked around a defenseman and snapped his shot top-shelf over goalie Michael Houser’s glove.

The Rampage responded to regain a 2-goal lead on a two-man advantage when Bobby Butler beat Climie with a quick shot over the blocker.

The Wolves rallied with a goal at 18:20 when Ty Rattie assisted Andronov, who poked it past Houser (5-2-0, 34 saves).

The Wolves return to Allstate Arena at 11 a.m. Wednesday when they host Hamilton in a School Day matinee.
