Geneva church to present special Christmas service

Submitted by St. Peter Church

Join in the Christmas happenings at St. Peter Catholic Church, 1891 Kaneville Road in Geneva. All are welcome to attend.

On Sunday, Dec. 15, there will be a Festival of Lessons and Carols by St. Peter School at 7 p.m. The students present this Advent Prayer Service, a tradition dating from the 19th century.

The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols is a service of Christian worship celebrating the birth of Jesus that is traditionally followed at Christmas. The story of the fall of humanity, the promise of the Messiah, and the birth of Jesus is told in nine short Bible readings from Genesis, the prophetic books and the Gospels, interspersed with the singing of Christmas carols and hymns. The children will engage the congregation in singing too.

On Sunday, Dec. 22, children age 3 through eighth grade retell the story of the birth of Jesus at the Children’s Christmas Pageant at 1 p.m. in the gym.

The Christmas Eve Mass will be at 4, 6:30 and 10 p.m. The Christmas Day Mass will be at 9 and 11 a.m.
