St. Charles FMC hosts Christmas Village, train open house
St. Charles Free Methodist Church is opening its doors to children and adults for the “Christmas Village” display featuring five electric trains. The free display can be viewed at the church, 214 Walnut St., St. Charles, from 6 to 8 p.m. Fridays, 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays and 11:30 a.m. to noon Sundays through Christmas.
The display features 30 porcelain buildings along with assorted figurines. Boy Scout Troop 60 assisted the church with the display's scenery last year and this year. The display's layout changes from week to week.
The display's five trains include three Lionel trains – two freight trains and one passenger train – manufactured before World War II. The other two trains are a Lionel “Polar Express” train and a MTH RailKing version of the Pioneer Zephyr.

The Christmas Village is not the only way the church is getting into the Christmas spirit. Pastor Dave Mann is preaching a sermon series related to the classic animated Christmas special, “A Charlie Brown Christmas.” The series will continue during the worship service at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, with the focus on Lucy van Pelt and a look at Matthew 2:1-18, and during the worship service at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, with the focus on Linus van Pelt and a look at Luke 2:8-20.
A Christmas Eve candlelight service with Communion will begin at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24. A hymn sing service will begin at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 29
