Toys for Tots gets boost from Elk Grove nonprofits
On Tuesday, Dec. 3, The Heart Of A Marine Foundation, headquartered in Elk Grove, along with the Community Character Coalition of Elk Grove donated over 1,500 toys to the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots holiday campaign.
Al Kolodziej, commandant of the Northwest Suburban Marine Corps League Detachment, was overwhelmed by the generosity of the Elk Grove Village donation.
“For a first-time event, this is unbelievable,” said Kolodziej. “I am so honored to present these toys.” Marine SSgt. Dixon of the 2 Battalion 24 Marine Regiment was in attendance to accept the donation.
Barbara Matsukes, marketing director for The Heart Of A Marine Foundation, initiated the campaign through the coalition.
“I was raised in Elk Grove,” Matsukes stated, “and I know firsthand what a caring community this is. It was a natural to partner the Marine Corps Reserve’s signature event with Elk Grove residents. And boy, did Elk Grove shine.”
Matsukes added, “The CCC has incorporated the Toys for Tots collection on their calendar for 2014. Look for this collection again next year.”
The Dec. 3, delivery was in conjunction with the CCC monthly membership meeting.
In attendance was Elk Grove Village Mayor Craig Johnson who stated his support to our military and the Toys for Tots campaign.
“This is a wonderful partnership, Elk Grove Village and the Toys for Tots program. Thanks to everyone for making this such a success, and making a such difference.”
Johnson also had a special announcement for the CCC and Heart Of A Marine Foundation: In conjunction with the Elk Grove Rotary Club’s annual festival; Elk Grove High School, the Rotary Club of Elk Grove, and the village of Elk Grove will partner to host a 5K run on the Saturday before Rotary Fest. Proceeds will go to Elk Grove High School, Elk Grove Rotary, The CCC of Elk Grove, and The Heart Of A Marine Foundation. The CCC and Heart Of A Marine Foundation were both beneficiaries of the Tour of Elk Grove through the Fallen Soldier Scholarship Fund.
With the Tour of Elk Grove disbanded, Johnson wanted to continue the support.
“I am so very happy to make this announcement, that we will be able to continue with the CCC scholarship program, and the contribution to The Heart Of A Marine Foundation through this race,” Johnson added. “Be looking for information on the inaugural 5K race event to be held on the Saturday before Rotary Fest.”
