Shop With a Cop event benefits Hoffman Estates kids
On the morning of Saturday, Dec. 14, the Hoffman Estates Police Charitable Foundation will be sponsoring its 14th annual “Shop with a Cop” holiday event. It will begin at the local Target in the Poplar Creek Crossing shopping plaza, and continue at the Chicago Marriott Northwest in the 59/90 Entertainment District.
The foundation is a nonprofit organization made up of sworn officers from the Hoffman Estates Police Department, and is committed to giving back to disadvantaged families in the village.
Members of the police department will be paired with one of 50 needy children from the community. The children who benefit from Shop with a Cop have been identified as in need of help for the holidays, and include direct referrals from School District 54 social workers in Hoffman Estates schools. Many of the children come from the Community Resource Center, which is supported by School District 54, and is at the Salem Hill/Interlude Apartments in Hoffman Estates and at the police station.
The cops will help the children shop for gifts for themselves and members of their household, with each child being allowed to spend about $125 at Target, which amounts to over $7,000 spent on the participants.
After shopping, the cops and kids will be bused to the Chicago Marriott Northwest in Hoffman Estates where a complimentary breakfast will be served, courtesy of the hotel. Everyone will be treated to games, crafts and a visit from a special visitor from the North Pole. Santa will provide each child with a gift and a stocking full of goodies, thanks to the generous support of many local business, which last year included Claire’s, Cabela’s, Red Robin, Stone Eagle Tavern, Millrose Restaurant, Buffalo Wild Wings, Hilton Garden Inn, Hoffman Estates Chamber of Commerce, America’s Bar & Grill, Poplar Creek Bowl, and a very special thank you to Target and Chicago Marriott Northwest.
This annual event is made possible through the support of charitable businesses and residents, and year-round fundraisers. Please send any donations to support this worthwhile event to: HEPCF, P.O. Box 95611, Hoffman Estates, IL 60169-0611.
