Grant helps Elk Grove boy receive needed therapy
Jack Gresko, a playful, independent 5-year-old boy who lives in Elk Grove Village, is full of energy and loves to dance. Jack was born with Down syndrome and requires weekly sessions with three different therapists to improve his fine motor skills and speech.
Earlier this year, Jack’s mother, Katie, learned insurance coverage wouldn’t cover Jack for the entire year. The family would have to limit Jack’s therapy or pay much of his therapy costs out of pocket, causing a financial strain.
Aware of her daughter’s plight, Katie Gresko’s mother looked for help and discovered information about the UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation grant program. Katie Gresko applied and was delighted when she was awarded a $5,000 grant.
“This medical grant has really made a difference in my son’s life, and is allowing us to continue to provide Jack with the therapy he needs so he can reach his full potential,” said Katie Gresko. “Other families in need should really consider applying for these resources.”
The UHCCF provides medical grants, up to $5,000, to families in need of financial assistance to help pay for their child’s health care treatments, services or equipment not covered, or not fully covered, by commercial health insurance. Over the last two years, the foundation has awarded grants to more than 50 families in Illinois, including Jack and Katie.
