Mayor helps north side kick off holiday season
Arlington Heights' newly elected Mayor joined neighbors and friends to officially kick off the holiday season on the village's north side with the 5th annual Ivy Hill neighborhood tree lighting and block party on Nov. 30.
Mayor Thomas Hayes and his wife Sue gathered with dozens of children to help countdown and flip the switch to brightly light up the 20 foot tall evergreen on Douglas Avenue at the home of Noreen and Brad Obuchowski.
“We very much enjoyed it,” said Mayor Hayes. “This is a great neighborhood event and it's reflective of how great our community is. We've been blessed the last couple days with a great Thanksgiving, a great tree lighting in downtown Arlington Heights and then this tree lighting. It wrapped up a perfect weekend.”
The event is also an opportunity to give back to those in need this season. Families donated more than 30 new toys and games for Toys for Tots and over $200 to the Feed My Starving Children organization.
