Lake County Community Foundation adds new directors
The Lake County Community Foundation announced the addition of John Geiringer and Bert Carstens to its board of directors. The foundation’s board has 13 directors representing the diversity and geographic scope of the county.
“John Geiringer and Bert Carstens bring a rich and diverse set of experiences and expertise to our board,” said Sylvia M. Zaldivar-Sykes, executive director of the foundation.
“We’re truly excited to have them join at a time when we’re looking forward to and planning out our second decade of making an impact on Lake County’s most vulnerable residents.”
John Geiringer, a Deerfield resident, is a partner at Barack, Ferrazano, Kirschbaum and Nagelberg and a member of the firm’s Financial Institutions Group. John serves as chairman of the American Bar Association Committee on Banking Law’s Enforcement, Insider Liability and Troubled Banks Subcommittee.
In addition, he teaches banking law and regulation at Chicago-Kent College of Law’s Graduate Program in Financial Services Law. Geiringer sits on a number of nonprofit boards, including Solomon Schechter Day School, Econ Illinois and DePaul University School of Law’s Center for Jewish Law and Judaic Studies.
“I’m honored and thrilled to join the board of the foundation because it gives me the opportunity to work with, and give back to, the kinds of organizations that helped my parents when they immigrated to this country,” said Geiringer.
“I hope that my strong interest in public policy, coupled with my experience representing banks and dealing with their community development issues, will benefit the foundation.”
Bert Carstens, a Lake Forest native, has been a Lake County banker for 23 years and has been CEO of Libertyville Bank & Trust, a Wintrust Community Bank, since 1995. Throughout the years, he has held various leadership positions with Lake County civic and nonprofit organizations such as the College of Lake County Foundation, the Lambs Farm Board of Directors and the Libertyville Rotary Club.
“Through my involvement with nonprofit organizations and working with civic leaders in the communities that our bank serves, I have a good sense of the issues facing many county residents and the important role that the Lake County Community Foundation can play in helping to address those issues,” said Carstens. “I look forward to expanding the foundation’s outreach to these communities.”

Since 2003, The Lake County Community Foundation, an affiliate of The Chicago Community Trust, has partnered with donors to leverage and guide their philanthropy to help transform the lives of the most vulnerable people across Lake County.
They contributed more than $2.5 million to 80 nonprofit organizations that support basic human needs, community development, education and health throughout Lake County.
