Northwest Indiana air show to return in 2014 at new site

HAMMOND, Ind. — Organizers of an air show traditionally held in Gary but canceled this year because of concerns over the federal budget will return next year in a different northwestern Indiana county.

South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority president Speros Batistatos says the South Shore Air Show will be held at Fair Oaks Farms in Newton County, about 40 miles south of Gary. Fair Oak Farms is a 33,000-acre attraction that features visitor tours of dairy and hog-rearing operations.

The dates for the air show have not yet been set. Organizers also are considering adding a car show and live music entertainment.

The air show had been held along Lake Michigan in Gary for more than a decade.
