Tribune Co. announces plan to cut 700 jobs
The Tribune Co. is cutting 700 jobs, including some at the Chicago Tribune, as it consolidates advertising, marketing, manufacturing, digital media and other functions across its eight daily newspapers.
The company reported it announced the plan to employees in a memo today. According to the Chicago Tribune, the cuts aim to offset publishing revenue declines of $75 million to $100 million.
The staff cut accounts for about 6 percent of the company's workforce, the Chicago Tribune reported. It will not include “front-line” reporters, the article quoted President and CEO Peter Liguori as saying.
Liguori described the restructuring as an effort to focus on digital growth “to anticipate the future needs and products of newspaper readership,” according to the article.
