$10M grant to UofI to develop data management software

CHAMPAIGN — The National Science Foundation has given the University of Illinois' National Center for Supercomputing Applications more than $10 million to develop software to manage vast amounts of un-curated digital scientific data.

The NCSA said Thursday it will use the money over five years to develop systems that it says will turn vast amounts of currently unorganized information into usable data.

Initially the software will be aimed at geoscience, biology, engineering and social science.

The NCSA says it will work with faculty at the University of Illinois, Boston University and the University of North Carolina.
