NIU, NU support veterans: Military uniforms are all the rage in college football now. Just Wednesday, the NIU Huskies played in “Active Heroes” jerseys that are being auctioned off to support military families.
One complaint I heard was that every player had “Heroes” written on the back instead of his name.
On Saturday, Northwestern will take the field against Michigan in red, white, blue and gray uniforms designed by Under Armour. Proceeds from an online jersey auction will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.
It still will be hard to tell who is who. Each player will sport one of seven words on the back of his jersey instead of his name: country, commitment, courage, duty, honor, integrity or service.
A throwback throwback: Remember the old-school uniforms the Bears wore for three games in 1994? The orange-and-blue striped jerseys with tan pants were part of the NFL's 75th anniversary that season.
Appropriately, the Bears donned them for a Halloween game against the Packers, who also were attired in garish duds.
