Lake Villa District Library Re-Stocks Food Pantry

Lake Villa District Library’s recent Food for Fines program helped re-stock the Lake Villa Township Food Pantry.

Thanks to the generosity of library’s patrons, five truckloads of non-perishable food items and personal care products were collected over 8 days. Library staff was completely wowed by the donation as the need at this time of year is great. Of course many library patrons welcome the food for fines program and take the opportunity to clear their fines with donations but others simply give. “One library patron told us how she wanted to give back” said Lake Villa District Library Circulation Manager Debbie Rosen. “At one time she was getting food for her family from the food pantry and understands what it means to go without".

Food for Fines is an annual effort at the library but this year donations of personal care items were strongly recommended. “Personal care items usually aren’t included in food drives” said Rosen. “It was wonderful to receive so many donations of soap, shampoo, diapers and other necessary items which families need”.
