BACOA accepting registrations for memory loss groups
The Barrington Area Council on Aging is accepting registrations for three memory loss groups:
The Early Stage Memory Loss Group: Open to people who are experiencing early memory loss and to their family members or partners. The program meets for 10 weekly sessions and covers pertinent topics, including an overview of early-stage memory loss, medical information, legal and financial planning, social and family relationships, driving and other considerations. The charge for this program will be $50 per couple; $35 for an individual; however, scholarships are available for anyone who is unable to pay.
“Making Sense of Memory Loss”: A five-week program for caregivers and family members of people who are experiencing memory loss. Topics covered include: an overview of memory loss and related symptoms; communication strategies; dealing with changing roles and relationships; planning for the future and effective ways of coping and caring. The charge for the class and materials, including a book, is $15. Scholarships are available for those who are unable to pay.
The Young Onset Dementia Support Group: An ongoing group for people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or other types of dementia before the age of 65 and their caregivers. The group meets once a month for an hour and a half in the evening. Caregivers and people with dementia meet separately. Speakers on various pertinent topics periodically present to the caregiver group. Facilitators lead the dementia group in activities and discussions. There is no charge for participation in this group, but registration is requested.
