Advocate Good Shepherd receives ‘A’ safety grade by Leapfrog Group
Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital was honored with an “A” grade in the Fall 2013 update to the Hospital Safety Score, which rates how well hospitals protect patients from accidents, errors, injuries and infections.
The Hospital Safety Score is compiled under the guidance of the nation’s leading experts on patient safety and is administered by The Leapfrog Group an independent industry watchdog. The first and only hospital safety rating to be analyzed in the peer-reviewed Journal of Patient Safety, the Score is designed to give the public information they can use to protect themselves and their families.
“We are proud of this extraordinary achievement, which reflects Good Shepherd Hospital’s ongoing commitment to quality and safety for our patients,” said Karen Lambert, president Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital.
Of the 2,539 general hospitals issued a Hospital Safety Score, 813 earned an “A,” 661 earned a “B,” 893 earned a “C,” 150 earned a “D” and 22 earned an “F.” Of the 115 hospitals rated in Illinois, 60 received an A.
The Hospital Safety Score is derived from expert analysis of 26 measures of publicly available hospital safety data on rates of infection, injuries and errors. This data is used to produce a single score representing a hospital’s overall performance in keeping patients safe from preventable harm and medical/medication errors.
“The safety of our patients is the main focus of all physicians and clinicians at Good Shepherd Hospital,” said Barry Rosen, MD Vice President of Medical Management at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital. “Our dedication to safety is so strong we meet every day seven days a week with leaders across the hospital in a ‘daily safety huddle’ to discuss any issues and how to work through them.”
