Hoffman Estates recognized for combating childhood obesity

The National League of Cities recently recognized Hoffman Estates for reaching key health and wellness goals for “Let’s Move! Cities, Towns and Counties,” a component of first lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move!” initiative dedicated to combating childhood obesity.

The village was awarded four medals. They included one gold medal for meeting the goal of “Start Early, Start Smart,” which the village did by promoting participation in Let’s Move! among early child care and education providers, among other actions. The village also received a gold, silver and bronze medal for meeting the goal of “Active Kids at Play,” by mapping play spaces, developing an action plan and launching multiple programs or initiatives to increase access to physical activity.
