Village hosts Community Open House for Barrington's White House

The village of Barrington will host an Open House at Barrington's White House, 145 W. Main St., from 10 a.m. -3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, and noon-3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17. There will be an architect presentation from 12:30-1:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The vision of the village and Barrington's White House Committee is to restore and renovate the property into an elegant and functional cultural and community center. The open house is an opportunity for everyone in the Barrington area to tour the building, view floor plans, and ask questions of the committee.

Barrington's White House Campaign is being led by a volunteer committee: Mary Smith, chairwoman, Karen Darch, Tom Hayward, Dave Nelson, Freddie Smith Pederson and Beth Raseman. The committee will be working to raise funds to support the restoration and renovation of this iconic landmark in the center of Barrington. The committee would love to have the project completed for Barrington's Sesquicentennial in 2015.

The house is a three story structure. The first floor will retain its original configuration of rooms, with a full catering kitchen being added. The second floor will be primarily rental office space for nonprofit organizations, but will also have a bride's preparation room. The third floor will be completely remodeled to bring back the historic ballroom.

The remodel will expand the ballroom, originally occupying the front of the house, to the entire length of the house and will be able to accommodate seated parties of 150.

The project team is composed of Johnson Lasky Architects, which specializes in historic preservation and Pepper Construction Company, which as been named as the construction manager. Representatives of these companies will be on hand to answer questions.

All ages are welcome and refreshments will be served.
