Disabled freight train causes delays in Glen Ellyn

A disabled freight train led to traffic delays in Glen Ellyn early Wednesday.

Glen Ellyn Police said the freight train blocked numerous railroad crossings in town after it broke down at 4:30 a.m., authorities said.

Authorities said officers were positioned throughout the city — including at Prospect Avenue, Main Street and Park Avenue — to protect pedestrian and motorists while the train was repaired.

They added via a news release that officers were assigned to the Taylor Street underpass to direct traffic.

The freight train was back in working order at 8:30 a.m., authorities said.

The cause for the train becoming disabled remains under investigation, they said.
