Long Grove man charged in fatal September DUI crash

A Long Grove man is being held on $500,000 bond on charges resulting from a September drunken driving crash that killed one woman and seriously injured another.

Stephen E. Tomczyk, 22 of Long Grove, was charged on Monday with reckless homicide, two counts of aggravated DUI resulting in death and two counts of aggravated DUI resulting in great bodily harm, according to a release from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

According to a release at the time, Tomczyk’s 2007 Ford F-150 collided with Jeewon Kim’s 2011 blue Honda CRV at about 6 p.m. on Sept. 5 at the intersection of Westmoreland Drive and Route 83.

Kim, 47 of Buffalo Grove, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, and her 16-year-old daughter was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Tomczyk will next appear in court on Dec. 2.
