Lake Zurich Area Farmers Market volunteers praised
Lake Zurich Mayor Thomas Poynton credited the work of volunteers on what he says was an “uber successful” new, village-sponsored weekly farmers market.
Poynton offered the kudos to the five farmers market volunteers during a recent village board session. The market launched June 14 and ran from 3 to 7 p.m. on Fridays at Paulus Park through Sept. 27.
Hundreds of customers visited the market for fresh produce, cheese, eggs and more each week. Officials said some vendors sold out of food on the first day.
Poynton said music festivals, block parties, sports tournaments and other events in towns big and small would never happen without dedicated volunteers. He said Lake Zurich Area Farmers Market volunteers Kevin Koch, Janet Barron, Mary Beth Euker, Susan Miller and Beth Slaughter are among the village’s unsung heroes making a positive difference in residents’ lives.
“One of my goals when I ran for election to this (mayor’s) office was to make an attempt to get more and newer residents involved in the community,” said Poynton, who labeled the new farmers market as “uber successful.”
Poynton said more volunteers likely will be needed as the village considers new additions, such as an art show and craft beer festival. He said anyone with a special events idea is encouraged to contact Dave Peterson, the recreation manager for the village’s park and recreation department who was singled out for his hard work on the farmers market.
“Nothing is off the table until it’s off the table,” Poynton said.
