25th Kenneth Young Center Fashion Show to raise awareness and celebrate hope and silver linings
Kenneth Young Center will host its 25th annual Fashion Show and Luncheon themed, “Celebrating Hope and Silver Linings.” The family-friendly event, aimed at raising awareness and funds for the charity’s mental health and senior services, will take place on Saturday, Nov. 2, at Belvedere Events & Banquets, 1170 W. Devon Ave. in Elk Grove Village. Reservations and in-kind donations are still being accepted.
This year’s theme, Celebrating Hope and Silver Linings, not only focuses on the silver anniversary of the event but the fact that individuals who are going through difficult times in life find hope after coming to Kenneth Young Center for services.
“Many of our clients have expressed feelings of hopelessness or despair prior to coming to Kenneth Young Center. After receiving therapy, vocational training or senior care services they tend to be more hopeful for what future the holds,” explained Cheri Seley, manager of Resource Development. “Our mission is to help people feel good, do better and find solutions. When you are feeling better and doing better, even if your situation is not perfect it helps you to see the silver linings in life.”
Maintaining its status as KYC’s signature event the fashion show draws in more than 400 attendees. Many people who come to the fashion show return year after year to experience the fun afternoon and support the many services and programs offered by Kenneth Young Center. It is common to see generations of one family in attendance at the fashion show. Women, who accompanied their mothers to the event as young girls have now reached adulthood and bring their own daughters to the fashion show.
As in previous years, the fashion show will feature models from Fashion With Flair. Some KYC supporters will be able to witness their children strutting down the runway in the latest fashions.
The children add a touch of unexpected cuteness and charm to the afternoon. In addition to the entertaining show there will also be exciting raffles where everyone will have the chance to win great prizes. Past raffle items have included hotel and spa stays, gift certificates, entertainment packages, beauty products and accessories.
The reason each person enjoys the fashion show varies. Some come for the fun time and to kickoff their holiday season while others are volunteers of the organization.
Rose Lester, a former KYC employee and fashion show committee member explained her reason for being involved with the event, “I believe in Kenneth Young Center’s cause and the fashion show brings together others who support them.” She suggested that anyone who wants to have a good time with their friends should purchase a ticket for the event.
The fashion show begins at 11 a.m. with drinks and mingling followed by the luncheon.
Models will make their runway entrance at 1:15 p.m. Reservations for this year’s fashion show are still being accepted.
