Power plant is a hazard
I am concerned about the Midwest Generation coal-powered plant on the lakefront in Waukegan.
The company entered bankruptcy about a year ago. Furthermore based on the documents presented in court, their profits are declining and they are looking for buyers.
There are several pending lawsuits against the company for both air and water pollution.
There does not seem to be a way for a bankrupt company to upgrade pollution controls to meet EPA and other standards. How will Waukegan deal with the exit of this plant? Is there a plan? What will happen to the 120-plus employees? What will happen to our precious air and the water of Lake Michigan?
I am concerned and I would like our local leaders to address these issues with all of the stakeholders and create a rational exit plan.
