Board of Trade opens vault to public after 83 years

Members of the public interested in seeing deep inside the Chicago Board of Trade will get a chance on Sunday.

The vault located in the building housing the commodity exchange will be opened to the public for the first time in its 83 years.

Owners of the Board of Trade's building will unlock the heavy doors as part of the weekend's architectural “Open House Chicago 2013.”

Representatives from GlenStar Properties and USAA Real Estate Company — the board building's new owners — will be there to welcome the public. The vault is no longer used by the Board of Trade.

The open house Saturday and Sunday is the third annual event by the Chicago Architecture Foundation and is free to the public.
