The Daily Herald and I have put together a promotion designed to help break your annual bout of cabin fever. And it takes place on Jan. 22, 2014, the first night of the Chicago Outdoor Sports Show in Rosemont.

All you have to do is show up and enter the free giveaway at the Grandt Custom Rods booth. One lucky winner will be the recipient of a Grandt Custom rod as well as a full day of guiding provided by T-Bone Guide Service.

Python corneredFrom the Outdoor Pressroom comes this report: When authorities in Port Salerno, Fla., attempted to apprehend a 10-foot albino Burmese python after receiving a call from a concerned citizen this week, the reptile promptly regurgitated the remains of two cats and tried to slither away to freedom. It was captured, but no one has come forward to claim the python ... or the cats.Fishing update:Fox Chain: White bass and crappie are the featured fish species during the #147;fall turnover#148; period. Best bets are Petite, Bluff, and Channel Lakes.
