MainStreet Libertyville receives Award for Excellence

At the recent Illinois MainStreet state conference, MainStreet Libertyville was honored to be the recipient of the Lt. Governor's Award for Excellence for its 2012 membership drive to promote local merchants, created by the Organization committee.

At the presentation, Lt. Governor Sheila Simon, who chairs the Governor's Rural Affairs Council said, “For 20 years Illinois Main Street has been helping support communities throughout Illinois. I look forward to continuing to work to preserve these communities that often provide an important snapshot of our past and a vision for our future.”

Ken Stemke, MainStreet Libertyville Chairman, said, “It is creative and innovative ideas like this membership program that keeps MainStreet Libertyville out in front. “

Over the past 20 years, Illinois Main Street communities have created 9,300 jobs, opened over 1,200 new businesses, and represent public and private investment of over $750 million. In Illinois, 42 communities hold the Illinois Main Street designation. Libertyville also has the distinction of being a Great American MainStreet award winner. This award is presented to select programs by the National Trust for Historic Preservation based on exceptional achievement in the process of strengthening the downtown based on revitalization efforts, commitment to historic preservation and successful small business development.

MainStreet Libertyville is a non profit, volunteer based organization whose mission is to promote and retain economic development in the downtown through historic preservation. The organization sponsors 50+ days of community and retail events annually, such as Let's Wine About Winter, First Fridays, Car Fun on 21, Historic House Walk, Out to Lunch, Farmers Market, Trick or Treat on MainStreet, Oktoberfest and the Twilight Shuffle 5K Run.
